This course provides key information, competencies and strategies for dealing with and integrating into the new environment
FOR STUDENTS TO BE MORE RESILIENT AND MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITY.
The Pre-Departure course is our main capacity building program. It is a group course that lasts 6 sessions.
Key subjects of the course are:
1. On-arrival integration strategy
2. Health and safety
3. Cultural awareness
4. Academic differences
In a nutshell, we prepare students to deal with the intensity of life transition and go through the integration process without having to go through cultural shock. This way students can use their time and energy to study and make social connections that will nurture their well being and help them succeed abroad.
Students meet and learn together either every week in a virtual learning environment (in groups of up to 6 participants) or spend a weekend attending a course hosted on-site (in groups of up to 12 participants).
In this course we provide an environment in which students can feel safe to express themselves, address their concerns, and ask questions. Students will work in an intercultural environment in English language and will have dedicated sessions with local students from the country they are going to.
Every session is followed by a home assignment – reflection, creative activity, observation or a research task – that will help students ponder, practice and integrate the knowledge and skills acquired during the session. These assignments will require around one hour of their time per week. Additionally, students will have individual assistance available over email during the week.
